What you need before your first swap

You need three things: a working wallet with funds, the correct network selected in that wallet, and the exact contract address of the token you want to swap into. That is it. Nothing else is required to begin, but each of these three items has a detail that trips up first-time users.

A wallet that holds the coin you are swapping from. Most people arrive holding SOL, USDC, or another widely accepted token. If you hold a token that is not commonly traded, you may need to swap it first for one that is. The wallet itself must be a self-custodial wallet - one where you control the private keys. Browser extension wallets and mobile wallets both work. The site does not hold your funds at any point; you connect your wallet, and the swap happens directly from it. Make sure you have enough of the source coin to cover both the amount you want to swap and any network fees. Fees are paid in the native coin of the blockchain you are using (SOL for Solana, ETH for Ethereum, etc.). If your balance is exactly the swap amount, the transaction will fail.

The correct network selected in your wallet. This is the most common single mistake. A wallet can hold the same token on multiple blockchains. If you see "USDC" in your wallet, it might be on Solana, Ethereum, Arbitrum, or Polygon. The swap will only work if the network your wallet is set to matches the network the site is processing on. Check the top of the swap interface: it will say which chain is active. Your wallet must be set to that same chain. If they do not match, the site will either show a zero balance or give an error. Fix it by switching networks in your wallet settings.

The exact contract address of the token you want to receive. This is not optional. Token names are not unique. Hundreds of tokens share the name "PEPE" across different blockchains, and dozens of copycat tokens share the same name and ticker within a single chain. The only reliable identifier is the contract address - a long string of letters and numbers that points to exactly one token. You get this address from the token's official website, its documentation, or a verified listing. Do not copy it from a social media post or a chat message unless you can independently verify it. Paste it into the swap interface where it asks for the token address. If you are swapping from a known token like SOL or USDC, the site likely auto-fills that side. But the token you are swapping into must be entered manually by its contract address.

A memo or destination tag, if required. Some blockchains, particularly those using the BNB Beacon Chain or certain exchange-based tokens, require a memo (sometimes called a destination tag) to route the transaction. The site will display a field for this if it is needed. If you see that field, it must be filled in with the exact string provided. Leaving it blank or entering the wrong string will result in a lost transaction. If you do not see the field, you do not need one.

Enough for a test swap. If this is genuinely your first swap, send a very small amount first. Small enough that losing it would not matter. A few dollars' worth of the source coin is enough to confirm the wallet is connected correctly, the network is right, the contract address is valid, and the swap executes as expected. The site will show you the estimated output before you confirm. Read it. If the output is zero or obviously wrong, cancel and recheck your inputs.
